The Maryland Terrapins looked a step slow for much of the night, but they turned it up a notch in the second half to rally back for an 88-79 victory.
Sean Mosley emerged from his month-long slump to score the team’s first seven points on his way to a game-high 20.
On a night when Greivis Vasquez didn’t feel well and really struggled in the first half, it was Mosley and a host of other Terps who stepped up to carry the team to victory.
Jordan Williams scored 18 points while Eric Hayes and Vasquez added 15 each. Vasquez also had 13 assists, showing that he can impact a game even when his shot isn’t falling. Cliff Tucker and Landon Milbourne each scored eight points.
The Terps fell behind by as much as 15 points in the first half and went into the locker room down nine. The deficit once again grew to double-digits in the second half, and many wondered if the Terps were simply exhausted from their blizzard-altered schedule.

The Maryland Terrapins used a game-winning three-pointer as time expired to slip past the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 76-74.
It looked like the Terps had taken the lead just moments earlier when Greivis Vasquez tossed in a 40-foot shot with less than a second remaining, but the basket was waived off because head coach Gary Williams had already called timeout.
Williams drew up an inbounds play, and Tucker caught the pass with his back to the basket about 24 feet away from the rim.
He turned around, pump-faked once, and then let it fly just before the final horn sounded. The ball rattled into the basket, setting off a wild celebration at the Comcast Center.
The win allows the Terps to stake claim to sole possession of second place in the ACC and remain just one game behind the rival first-place Duke Blue Devils.

The Maryland Terrapins defeated the visiting Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
Twice.
After a game-winning desperation half-court shot made by Greivis Vasquez was disallowed because head coach Gary Williams had called a timeout before he released the ball with 1.5 seconds left, Cliff Tucker made a 3-pointer at the buzzer on the ensuing inbounds play to give the Terps a miraculous 76-74 victory.
The little-known Tucker, a backup guard who isn’t known for his shooting prowess, caught the ball on the sideline and pump-faked his defender to cause enough hesitation to get off the contested shot. The buzzer-beater came after Georgia Tech’s Derrick Favors gave the Yellow Jackets a one-point lead with 3 seconds left in the game.
The win means the Terps are still unbeaten at home in the ACC, and now have sole possession of second place in the conference.
Vasquez scored 18 points to make him the 6th player in Maryland history to reach 2,000 for his career, and he also became the first player in ACC history to record at least 2,000 points, 700 assists, and 600 rebounds.

The Maryland Terrapins overcame a poor start to rally back for a 67-58 road win over the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
Greivis Vasquez led the second half rally and finished with a game-high 25 points and six assists.
Jordan Williams also was a key in the second half and finished with yet another double-double. Williams had 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Maryland played about as poorly as they possibly could in the first half and trailed by 10 at halftime.
The Terps simply refused to let a poor shooting night bother them, and they used stingy defense down the stretch to rally past the Wolfpack.

The Maryland Terrapins jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 85-66 victory over the rival Virginia Cavaliers.
Greivis Vasquez led the way with 30 points, 25 of which came in the first half. He also had seven rebounds and six assists.
Eric Hayes nearly finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Who thought Hayes would come so close to a double-double because of rebounds?
It was nice to see the Terps respond so authoritatively after such a disappointing performance in their loss at Duke over the weekend.
They have little time to celebrate the rout, as they must turn around and play at North Carolina State in less than 48 hours.

The Maryland Terrapins came out slow and rarely showed signs of life in an embarassing 77-56 loss to the Duke Blue Devils.
Greivis Vasquez got off to a very slow start but finally heated up in the second half to finish with 17 points, but it was too little, too late for the Terrapins.
Surprisingly, one of Maryland’s biggest challenges on the day was defending unheralded center Brian Zoubek, who finished with 16 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
It also didn’t help that the Terps couldn’t seem to get shots to fall that have been dropping for them for much of the season.
The loss drops the Terps to 6-3 in the conference at the midway point and will make a push for the regular season conference title much more difficult.

The game between the Maryland Terrapins and Virginia Cavaliers has been postponed and rescheduled for Monday, February 15.
The change is a result of yet another blizzard set to impact the Maryland area on Wednesday, and the storm was supposed to continue until tip-off.
This will also give Maryland fans who missed the North Carolina game because of the first blizzard a chance to avoid missing yet another game.
As for the Terps and head coach Gary Williams, they have to be less than pleased about the rescheduling.
The move means that the Terps will have to play three key ACC games in a five-day span, including two on the road. The snow is making life a lot more difficult for Maryland these days.

Despite a raucous crowd, the Maryland Terrapins held their composure down the stretch to hold on for a 71-67 victory over the Florida State Seminoles.
Star point guard Greivis Vasquez was the subject of much of the ire from Florida State fans as they spewed racist insults at him.
Vasquez spewed his own insults in the way he played, dropping 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists on a venemous crowd that went home terribly disappointed.
Head coach Gary Williams said it was a huge road win for his team after such a terrible performance at Clemson, a game they still should have won despite the poor play.
He also said that Vasquez plays with a lot of emotion that rubs other people the wrong way, but that it’s his passion that makes him the great player he is.

The Maryland Terrapins turned in quite possibly their sloppiest performance of the season in a 62-53 loss to the Clemson Tigers.
Maryland shot poorly from the field and turned the ball over a mind-boggling 25 times against the Tigers.
Greivis Vasquez had just 11 points and two assists, and his nine turnovers led the team. Eric Hayes wasn’t much better, scoring just 10 points with two assists and five turnovers.
Jordan Williams was by far the most effective Terps, scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. He looked like the only player ready to play ball.
Head coach Gary Williams will have to get his team regrouped before Thursday night’s contest at Florida State.

The Maryland Terrapins scored a major victory on Thursday night, knocking off the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee, 71-67. The Terps used an 18-7 run to start the second half to grab the lead and then held off a late Seminoles rally to remain a half-game back of Duke for first place in the ACC with a 5-2 record. The win also gave the Terps a two-game sweep of its season series with the Seminoles.
Greivis Vasquez played like a first-team all-conference guard, leading Maryland in points, rebounds, and assists for the game with 23, seven and seven. He got help in the way of 18 points from Landon Milbourne, and freshman big man Jordan Williams added 14. The contributions could not have been more important, considering that the bench only scored three points on the night.
But one could argue that the story of the game was the Terps’ defense on Seminoles stars Solomon Alabi and Chris Singleton. Maryland shut down both of them, as they combined for just 17 points on a dreadful 5 of 22 from the field. Had it not been for guard Derwin Kitchen’s career-high 29 points, Florida State might have been run out of its own gym.
Maryland takes on a reeling North Carolina team on Sunday in a game that the Terps are actually expected to win, given the Tar Heels’ struggles.
