Terps fall to Cincinnati, 69-57

The Maryland Terrapins had their worst shooting night of the season in a 69-57 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Point guard Greivis Vasquez had another poor shooting night but did manage to lead the Terps with 17 points.

Landon Milbourne had just seven points as he battled foul trouble all night. He picked up his fourth foul just a couple of minutes into the second half.

Maryland shot just 2-14 from three-point range and made just 54% of their foul shots while being outrebounded, 45-31.

The loss means the Terps will not advance to the championship game to play Gonzaga and will instead take on Wisconsin.

Terps blow lead against Seminoles, 29-26

The Maryland Terrapins played arguably their best game of the year in a 29-26 loss to the Florida State Seminoles.

After falling behind in the first quarter, Maryland battled back and seemed to take control of the game in the second half.

The Terps offense showed an ability to move the ball up and down the field on the arms and legs of quarterback Jamarr Robinson.

However, a big punt return late in the game set up tremendous field position for the Seminoles final drive.

Maryland’s defense then gave up a couple of big quarterback scrambles that put the ball inside their own 10-yard line, and it led to an easy, game-winning score for the Seminoles.

Terps overcome slow start to roll past Chaminade

The Maryland Terrapins overcame a sluggish start to roll to a 79-51 victory over Chaminade, the host of the tournament.

Sean Mosley led the Terps with 19 points while Landon Milbourne added 12. Eric Hayes had 10 points.

Mosley helped to spur the Terps on a couple of big runs and also had eight rebounds in addition to his usual relentless defense.

It was another poor performance from Greivis Vasquez, who had four turnovers in the early going and finished with just six points.

Head coach Gary Williams said that he was happy to see his team respond so well in what was essentially a road environment.

Terps knock off Charleston Southern, 89-51

The Maryland Terrapins opened up the 2009-2010 college basketball season with a resounding, 89-51 victory over Charleston Southern.

Maryland started out fast and really never looked back despite a poor shooting night from Greivis Vasquez.

Landon Milbourne lead all scorers with 16 points while Sean Mosley chipped in with 15. Both provided some dazzling displays of their athleticism.

Freshman Jordan Williams got the start and was a big factor in the team’s flex offense. He showed great touch around the basket.

The Terps have two games this week before gearing up for the Maui Invitational around Thanksgiving.

Terps fall to Hokies, 36-9

The Maryland Terrapins were little problem for the Virginia Tech Hokies in a 36-9 loss at Byrd Stadium.

The Terps generated very little offense with Jamarr Robinson at quarterback, as the only touchdown came on a defensive fumble recovery in the end zone.

Robinson was the team’s lone rushing threat, accounting for 124 yards on the ground on 25 carries.

In what was deemed a blackout game for the Terps, more fans were seen donning the orange and maroon of the Hokies.

It seems that the miserable season is starting to take a huge effect on the turnout for games, and I can only imagine how bad it will be for the home finale on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Terps come up shorts vs. Wolfpack, 38-31

The Maryland Terrapins put forth a tremendous effort but still came up short in a 38-31 loss to the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

It was a shootout in Raleigh featuring two terribly disappointing and underachieving teams looking to finish the year on a positive note.

The Terps scored a touchdown on defense and special teams to keep them in the game, but it still wasn’t enough.

Maryland also lost starting quarterback Chris Turner to a knee ligament injury, giving Jamar Robinson a chance to play.

Robinson is expected to start next week when the Terps host the Virginia Tech Hokies in what could be a very ugly affair.

Terps knock off Indiana, (PA) in scrimmage, 75-54

The Maryland Terrapins played their first scrimmage of the year and rolled past Indiana, (PA), 75-54.

While it was just an exhibition game and attendance was low, it was still a positive sign so early in the season.

Greivis Vasquez and Sean Mosley led the way for a team that was missing Dino Gregory, who violated a team rule.

That meant more playing time for freshmen Jordan Williams and David Padgett, who both played well for their first game.

If nothing else, it was a great chance for Terps fans to forget about their pathetic excuse for a football team.
