The Maryland Terrapins saw a 13-10 lead evaporate in a hurry as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights pulled away for a 34-13 win.
The Terps turned the ball over five times, with quarterback Chris Turner shouldering much of the blame.
Turner stared down his receivers and made poor throws. He also made poor decisions with the ball, and it really cost the Terps.
The fourth quarter turned into a joke as the Scarlet Knights broke off two long runs for touchdowns.
The Terps host Clemson next Saturday and are two touchdown underdogs.

The Maryland Terrapins went into Saturday’s game looking for revenge, and all they came away with was more embarassment.
The Terps held the lead over Middle Tennessee State much of the afternoon only to give it up at the end in a 32-31 loss.
Maryland missed a 42-yard field goal with just under two minutes to play, and MTSU drove the length of the field for an easy 17-yard, game-winning chip shot.
It is the second year in a row that MTSU has shocked the Terps, although I can’t say it was so much of a surprise this time around.
Maryland’s defense is absolutely terrible, and they still turn the ball over way too much.

The Maryland Terrapins managed to avoid a disastrous result against the James Madison Dukes, gutting out a 38-35 overtime victory at Byrd Stadium.
The Terrapins fell behind a few times during the game, including after they held a 21-6 lead.
The Terps fought back in the final minutes to tie the game up and then the defense was finally able to stop James Madison and force the game into overtime.
In the overtime session, the defense came up with another big stop which eventually lead to a costly missed field goal by James Madison.
Maryland then ripped off a couple of big gains to get the ball down to the five-yard line, setting a chip shot for the game-winning field goal.

The Maryland Terrapins now must try and move past the rout at the hands of the California Golden Bears in the season opener and prepare for James Madison.
The CAA is not a conference that can be overlooked after two ACC teams went down in flames to Richmond and William & Mary over the weekend.
Maryland has had their share of troubles against smaller schools in the past, last year falling to Middle Tennessee State in a game that wasn’t even all that close.
The Terps will need to get some of their swagger back heading into the rest of their schedule, and a big win at Byrd Stadium in the home opener would be just what the doctor ordered.

The Maryland Terrapins got off to a slow start and never could recover, losing 52-13 on the road to the No.12 California Golden Bears.
The Terps fell behind 14-0 before they were able to get on the scoreboard, and even then they couldn’t find the end zone. Two Nick Ferrera field goals were all the Terps could muster.
On defense, Maryland was overwhelmed from the start with the speed from California, in particular from running back/wide receiver/kick return speedster Jahvid Best.
Best was knocked out of last year’s loss to the Terps and exacted plenty of revenge last night in helping the Bears roll to the lopsided win.
It’s hard to think of any positives that came out of this game for the Terps, other than that maybe their terribly young group of players gained some valuable experience.
