Terps’ Turner still struggles with deep ball

After the Maryland Terrapins most recent scrimmage, it was still evident that quarterback Chris Turner doesn’t have the arm to make the big throws.

Head coach Ralph Friedgen said that the senior does a nice job on short throws but can’t really get the ball down the field.

With all of the speed, to go along with inexperience, of the wide receivers, the Fridge would like to attack vertically more often.

I’m sure Turner would love to do the same, but the team can’t risk turning the ball over if his weak arm can’t get the ball to the places it needs to go.

Look for the Terps to hope and pray their offensive line comes together so that they can run the ball and control the clock.

Terps getting little notice from pollsters

The Maryland Terrapins are just two weeks away from their first game of the season, yet the team is getting little notice.

The Terps are considered by many to be one of the worst teams in the Atlantic Division and have not popped up in anyone’s Top 25.

In fact, the Terps have been ranked in the 60’s and 70’s by pundits and publications that rank every single team in college football.

While experience is not on Maryland’s side, you can’t argue with their relatively easy schedule.

After a tough opening game against California, the Terps could easily be 5-1 heading into the second half of the season.

Terps not picked highly in ACC

The Maryland Terrapins are aware that they probably won’t be in the national championship race this season, but preseason prognostications have caught them by surprise.

Most analysts are predicting that the Terps will either finish in fifth or sixth place in the Atlantic Division of the ACC.

Only Boston College is predicted to be worse, and some analysts do have the Terps in the cellar.

A youth-filled team may be the reason for such ugly predictions, as well as the team’s stumble down the stretch last season.

Nonetheless, head coach Ralph Friedgen believes the youthfulness means a hungry team ready to prove all of their critics wrong.

Terps need Turner to have big season

The Maryland Terrapins aren’t predicted by many to finish high in the ACC, but one man figures to have something to say about that.

Senior quarterback Chris Turner doesn’t want to go out that way and hopes to guide the Terps to a big year in the ACC.

Turner has been often criticized for his lack of emotion but yet erratic play at the quarterback position.

He is hoping to turn those critics into fans this year despite losing star wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey to the NFL.
